Knowing how many visitors came is important — but knowing where they came from is what enables smart ad spend. Insytix tracks traffic sources, UTM parameters, Google Ads (gclid), and referrer for every visitor, lead, and order. This guide explains how tf.js collects sources, how to add UTM to campaigns, and how to read data in the dashboard.

How tf.js collects traffic sources

When a visitor enters your site, tf.js reads the URL: UTM parameters (utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_term, utm_content), gclid from Google Ads, fbclid from Facebook, and referrer (the site they came from). Parameters are stored for the entire session — even as they browse pages. When they submit a form or purchase, the arrival source is attached to the event.

  • utm_source — source (facebook, google, newsletter)
  • utm_medium — medium (cpc, email, organic)
  • utm_campaign — campaign name
  • gclid — Google Ads identifier

Adding UTM to campaigns

Add UTM parameters to every campaign link: Facebook, Google, Instagram, newsletter, WhatsApp Status. Example: https://example.co.il/?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=summer_sale. Google Ads adds gclid automatically — Insytix reads it. For organic campaigns (unpaid Facebook post) — add UTM manually to the post link.

  • Facebook Ads: utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=cpc
  • Google Ads: automatic gclid + UTM recommended
  • Newsletter: utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email
  • WhatsApp: utm_source=whatsapp&utm_medium=social

Traffic sources in the dashboard

In the Insytix dashboard you'll see source breakdown: direct (typed URL), organic (Google), paid (Google Ads, Facebook), social, and other. In Leads and Orders tabs — source column per record. In Activity — detailed log with full UTM. Answer: "where did the most valuable lead this week come from?"

Traffic source for leads

Every Insytix lead shows arrival source: "Google Ads — cleaning services campaign", "Facebook — summer sale", "direct", "organic Google". Critical for marketing agencies reporting to clients — and business owners deciding whether to keep advertising on Facebook or shift budget to Google.

Traffic source for orders

For WooCommerce, Konimbo, E-Shop, and Wix Store — every order carries arrival source. See that "Passover sale" brought 120 orders at ₪85,000, while "new product" brought 15 at ₪8,000. Real ROI — not just clicks. Connecting Google Ads and Facebook Ads from the dashboard enriches data with campaign names.

Connecting Google Ads and Facebook

In Insytix dashboard → Integrations, connect Google Ads and Facebook Ads. See campaign data (spend, clicks) alongside Insytix conversions (leads, orders) — all in one place. gclid links automatically to orders and leads. Useful for Israeli businesses advertising on both platforms.

Google Search Console and organic

Connecting Google Search Console from the dashboard shows search terms and pages driving organic Google traffic. Insytix identifies organic visitors without UTM — via referrer. Combine: GSC for long-term SEO analysis, Insytix for immediate action (lead came from Google → call fast).

Tips for Israeli businesses

Use consistent Hebrew or English campaign names in utm_campaign. Advertise on Facebook and Instagram (popular in Israel) with separate UTM per platform. Newsletters — utm_medium=email. WhatsApp Business links — utm_source=whatsapp. Weekly check which sources generate leads and orders — and shift budget accordingly.

Verify source tracking

Browse the site with ?utm_source=test&utm_medium=manual&utm_campaign=verification. Submit a form or place test order. In dashboard verify arrival source shows test/manual/verification. If not — check tf.js loads and parameters are in URL. Browse from Google (organic search) — check referrer.

Referrer and organic traffic

When a visitor comes from Google without UTM, Insytix uses referrer — the URL of the site they came from. This identifies organic Google traffic, links from other sites, or social (when no UTM). Connecting Google Search Console from dashboard adds a layer: specific search terms that drove traffic. Combine: GSC for long-term SEO, referrer for immediate identification, UTM for paid campaigns.

Source analysis by business type

Israeli service business: usually 40–60% of leads from Google (organic + Ads) and 30–40% from Facebook/Instagram. E-commerce store: Facebook Ads dominant, with Google Shopping growth. B2B: LinkedIn and Google search. Insytix shows your real breakdown — not market average. Use data to decide where to increase budget: if Facebook brings leads but Google brings orders — maybe strengthen Google.

UTM examples for Israeli campaigns

Facebook Ads: ?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=passover_2026. Google Ads: automatic gclid + utm_campaign=brand_search. Newsletter: ?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=march_promo. WhatsApp Status: ?utm_source=whatsapp&utm_medium=social. Instagram: ?utm_source=instagram&utm_medium=cpc. Keep names consistent — easily identify which campaign drove results in dashboard. Don't use spaces in utm_campaign — use underscores.

Frequently asked questions

UTM required? Not mandatory — but recommended for paid campaigns. Direct visitor? Marked as direct. gclid enough without UTM? Yes for Google Ads. UTM persists across pages? Yes, entire session. See search keyword? Via GSC, not directly from UTM. fbclid recognized? Yes. UTM works in WhatsApp links? Yes, if customer clicks the link.

Reporting for owners and agencies

Business owner: weekly dashboard check — which sources brought leads and orders, and whether to shift budget. Marketing agency: export source and UTM data for client report — "campaign X brought 25 leads and 12 orders". Connect Google Ads from dashboard to compare spend vs Insytix conversions — real ROI. Don't rely only on Facebook Ads Manager clicks — Insytix shows real on-site conversions.

Summary

Traffic sources in Insytix: UTM, gclid, referrer — for every visitor, lead, and order. Add UTM to campaigns, connect Google Ads and GSC, and weekly check what works. Invest ad budget in what drives real conversions — not just traffic.
